Arts writer Reuben Woods discussed Jacob Yikes' art and studio practice.  "As his practice developed, Yikes has become increasingly freeform, responding to surfaces in the moment, whether in the street or in the studio.   Combining elements from both worlds has been a feature of his work, while still viewing each as distinct, and providing unique material and thematic qualities.  Yikes is prolific in urban and fine arts, a balancing act between intense periods of creation in either one.  His graffiti is entirely distinctive, there is a sense of surrealism and a feeling of movement.  From relatively early on there was a sense that he was creating new worlds even in his graffiti work.  His work is often densely filled.  Otherworldly qualities and dynamism have been important.  It is rarely inanimate, yet there is an eerie silence and sometimes unsettling, as if a moment has frozen.  He opens a door to another world."
