Before there was Post-Modernism there was European Modernism:  Picasso and abstraction and although perceived to have failed to influence contemporary art in Aotearoa until the late 1950s,the Christchurch Art Gallery’s, Ink on Paper: Aotearoa New Zealand Printmakers of the Modern Era  verifies that Modernism was an influential presence as early as the 1920s.  Ink on Paper is a revelation about printmaking, revealed through dramatic, intimate and sublime works on paper, ranging from the obscure to the famous, including, for example, Adele Younghusband (1878 – 1969) and  Francis Hodgkins (1869-1947).  Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū, Worcester Blvd and Montreal corner, 11 February – 28 May 2023
