Daniel John Corbett Sanders and Priscilla Rose Howe, Backdirt, The Physics Room, 301 Montreal St. The Arts Centre Registry Additional Buildings. 10 March-21 April

Backdirt is an experience like no other, an unanticipated encounter that amuses and persuades. Daniel John Corbett Sanders and Priscilla Rose Howe raise questions about public expressions of queerness and what continues to be considered transgressive. The detail of Howe’s Pool Party, a large wall painting of figures sharing a sauna with dead oysters and prawns, resonates with an ‘otherness’ that is very funny, yet equally about conversations, relationships and connections.  As such, Sanders and Howe deliver on Backdirt’s affirmative message, ‘the work inhabits a queer world that is abundant, untamable, and infinitely various.’
